Greening the Youth Sector

Client: Council of Europe Youth Partnership

Greening the Youth Sector: Sustainability Checklist was one of those lovely medium-sized projects that involve many skills and stir our creativity. It required the creation of both an animation and the layout of a publication (printable and web-friendly), along with multiple language adaptations (in Spanish, French, Serbian), printable versions and post cards.

When we started, the paper (based on research done by the Pool of European Youth Researchers – PEYR, and authored by Neringa Tumėnaitė) was ready for the layout process. But, to make the whole project as cost-efficient as possible, we needed to optimise our work. So we chose a rather interesting way to approach this project.

We did draw inspiration from the paper, but we started by first creating the animation (above) and only later went into the creation of the publication layout. In this way, by first doing the illustrations needed for the animated video, we increased the chances of using most of them also for the layout.

Had we started vice-versa, many illustrations from the publication (being rather static) might have not worked into the animation or might have needed lots of extra-work for adaptations and changes.

Also, by using the elements of the animated video also into the publication, we made sure that we created a coherent visual language across the board.
