Recognition Matters

The Rec-Mat project (Recognition Matters) is a Key Action 2 Capacity Building programme, funded by the Erasmus+, which aims to promote and facilitate student exchange between Europe and Latin America. Five European partners and five institutions from Latin America are leading the project.

In September 2021, while most of the Pandemic rules were still in place, Rec-Mat organised an online conference around their main activity and the strategy for the next years. Picturise joined this 3-day event where the main points of the conversations were mapped visually in digital format. While doing the online graphic recording, we also learned many things about how academic recognition works and why it’s so important.

When it comes to the situation between Europe and Latin America, most young people tend to avoid enrolling into student exchange programmes because of their universities back home not recognising their studies, work and efforts.

Therefore, the members of the Rec-Mat programme use their valuable experience with regard to different Educational Systems, principles, practices and tools to support academic recognition in order to make things work between the two continents. It’s a laborious work that involves multiple activities and the alignment of authorities, politics and policies.
